Discovery Museum
Marina
Center will provide an expanded new venue for Eurekas Discovery
Museum. A program of Camp Fire USA Northern California Council, the Discovery
Museum provides a fun and friendly, hands-on, interactive learning environment
for children of all ages.
The Discovery Museum began in 1995 as a grassroots organization operating
as a museum without walls. Embraced by the community, the
initiative quickly required a physical space and the Discovery Museum
opened in 1995 at the Bayshore Mall, where it operated until moving to
its present location in Old Town Eureka in 1999.
Today, the Discovery Museum is a popular local destination for families
and kids who come to see the museums interactive and creative exhibits.
These exhibits highlight everything from a child-size grocery store to
an "out-of-this world," three-dimensional planetarium experience.
Partnerships with Humboldt State University and College of The Redwoods,
Eureka City Schools and other organizations help the non-profit Discovery
Museum provide a stimulating and engaging educational environment for
North Coast residents and tourists alike. The Museum strives to be all-inclusive
and actively seeks to provide affordable programs and scholarship opportunities
for low-income and disadvantaged children. Individual, family and business
memberships are available.
The Discovery Museums evolution will continue in a larger, state-of-the-art
space at the Marina Center, where it will be able to introduce exciting
new exhibits and programs for the local community.
